Our team is led by a group of professionals with unrivalled experience in both investment banking and fund management.

Joseph Chu

Joseph Chu is the Founder and Managing Director of Odysseus Capital Asia.

Joseph has over 24 years of experience in the origination and execution of equity capital markets and corporate finance transactions in Asia, in particular Hong Kong and the PRC. He started his career in Morgan Stanley in London and thereafter worked in the corporate finance department of a number of global investment banks, including Morgan Grenfell, SBC Warburg and Rothschild, where he became a member of the board of directors in Hong Kong in 2000 and a board member of Rothschild’s direct investment fund focusing on PRC investments (which was jointly sponsored by the CITIC group) and its related investment manager KWR Asset Management Ltd. He also served as the Head of Investment Banking for North Asia at Rabobank International and subsequently joined CLSA Limited as Managing Director and Head of Hong Kong Coverage responsible for the bank’s investment banking activities in Hong Kong and the PRC. Prior to establishing Odysseus, he joined Galaxy Asset Management, one of the largest alternative investment companies based in Hong Kong, as a Managing Director where he raised and managed an event driven fund and also established an advisory firm which is the predecessor of Odysseus.

Joseph is a Fellow Member of Hong Kong Institute of Directors, a director of Tranxit China Master Fund (a long-short equity hedge fund) and a director of Yan Oi Tong (one of the six largest charitible organisations in HK) and a member of its investment committee. He graduated with a MBA from Imperial College, London University and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from University College, London University.

Philip Gregory

Philip Gregory is a Director of Odysseus Capital Asia.

Philip has over 19 years of experience in the areas of corporate finance, equity capital markets and M&A in Asia and other markets. Prior to joining Odysseus Capital, he served as Head of Investment Banking, Asia Pacific at Renaissance Capital, a leading emerging markets investment bank with particular focus on the natural resources sector, where he led teams of professionals in Hong Kong and Beijing. Prior to that he was an Executive Director of Investment Banking at UBS Hong Kong where he was also a member of the UBS equity commitments committee. He also served as Director and Head of China Execution at CLSA in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Philip’s experience covers multiple sectors including natural resources, real estate, telecommunications, infrastructure, manufacturing and consumer sectors. A fluent Mandarin speaker, he has been based in Asia for over 20 years and has lived and worked in mainland China for several years and has been involved in the listing of many mainland Chinese companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Before moving into investment banking, Philip worked as a corporate lawyer in Hong Kong for several years, including 4 years with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Hong Kong and London, and 4 years with Richards Butler in Hong Kong. Philip holds a BA/LLB from Melbourne University and a post-graduate Diploma of Chinese Studies from Hopkins-Nanjing Center, Nanjing University. He was admitted as barrister and solicitor in Victoria, Australia and England & Wales, and as a solicitor in Hong Kong.

Thomas Kwan

Thomas Kwan is a Managing Director of Odysseus Capital Asia Limited.

Thomas has been in the industry for more than fifteen years and has extensive experience in the Greater China region. Thomas’ expertise includes leading M&A transactions, both buy and sell-side, and fund raising projects and advisory services including deal origination, target identification, business strategy advice, structural and regulatory advice and pricing and negotiation strategy.

Before joining Odysseus, Thomas was Director of PwC’s Corporate Finance division in Hong Kong and one of PwC’s Responsible Officers. Prior to joining PwC, Thomas was Vice President of OCBC Investment Banking Business based in Hong Kong responsible for IPO and M&A transactions. Thomas was also Senior Manager (Head of M&A Advisory, Southern China) of KPMG Corporate Finance Limited, Manager of Rabobank’s M&A team in Hong Kong, and analyst at McKinsey & Co’s Corporate Finance and Strategy practice. Thomas graduated as a member of Beta, Gamma, Sigma of HKUST MBA program, and holds a BSc degree in Finance from the City University of Hong Kong. He holds a type 6 licence from the SFC in Hong Kong to advise on corporate finance transactions.

Henry Ho

Henry Ho is a Director and Head of China of Odysseus Capital Asia Limited.

Mr. Ho has over 30 years of experience in management of funds in listed securities and in private equities, investment banking and research as well as general management of listed companies in Hong Kong and China. He worked as fund manager at various fund management houses, including Schroders Investment Management, Baring Asset Management, and founded the HK office of Atlantis Investment Management. From 2000 to 2008, he worked for several internationally prestigious investment banks heading their China equity research department, including Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, UBS, Lehman Brothers and CLSA. Since 2009, he has been a partner in Cornerstone Fund Management, a private equity fund management company in China. During the period from 1994 to 1999, he served as a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

He holds a degree of Master of Arts in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lancaster, United Kingdom. He is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has been a director of 天津天士力制藥股份有限公司 (Tianjin Tasly Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company Limited), a company listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, since March 2009 and a non-executive director of Mongolia Investment Group Limited, a company listed on HKex.
